Whether you’re hiking, relaxing in the hot tub, or exploring the trails, here are some essentials to pack for your romantic Southern Illinois getaway:
Outdoor & Hiking Gear
Reconnecting with a loved one at night and adventuring by day is typically what draws folks to us. If you are ready to get your hike on and really rack up the miles you are sure to need these items:
- Sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes – many Shawnee trails include uneven terrain, creek crossings, and rocky paths.
- Weather-appropriate clothing – layers are best; bring lightweight clothes for summer and warm outerwear for fall/winter.
- Rain jacket & backpack – sudden showers are very common in the forest and make for amazing waterfall viewing.
- Reusable water bottles or hydration pack – stay refreshed on the trail.
- Bug spray & sunscreen – protect yourself from ticks, mosquitoes, and sun.
- Lunch box and picnic blanket – Nothing is more romantic than sharing a snack or a toast while taking in an amazing view during a hike with your loved one. Don’t forget to pack those snacks and drinks.
Relaxation & Comfort
A stay at Shawnee Forest Hideaway is the ultimate in relaxation and romance for couples. Soak those sore hiking muscles after a day of adventuring in our secluded hot tub, cuddle up, slow down and reconnect for a romantic southern Illinois getaway with these essentials:
- Swimsuit – enjoy our hot tub overlooking the stream while you unwind at Shawnee Forest Hideaway
- Casual clothes in layers – perfect for lounging on the back deck or around the fire pit during sunrise or sunset.
- Your favorite adult beverages – Enjoying a glass of wine at sunset in the hot tub with your loved one might be the perfect end to a long day of hiking and exploring.
- Favorite snacks & drinks – stock up before you arrive; the cabin has a full grill and kitchen space to take advantage of.
- Books, journals, or games – unplug and enjoy quiet evenings reconnecting with a loved one or reading/ journaling in peace.
Travel Essentials
- GPS or offline maps – cell service can be limited in the forest. Shawnee Forest Hideaway does have high speed internet available.
- Camera or phone with charger – capture your favorite moments and scenic overlooks.
- Flashlight or headlamp – handy for nighttime walks around the property.
